Spinach Kadaiyal

Spinach Masiyal (Pasalai Keerai Masiyal) is one of the tasty side dish made out of Spinach, dhal and spices. Regularly including spinach in our cooking ensures good iron supplement to your health.  This recipe requires very less oil & hence can be used lavishly by diet-watchers. This spinach masiyal doesn’t require extensive preparation, as most of the cooking is done in the pressure cooker and after cooking only mashing & seasoning is required.

Ingredients:

Palak Keerai or any Variety Keerai – 1 Bunch, chopped fine
Toor Dhal – ½ Cup
Medium Onion – 1 , finely chopped
Medium Tomato – 1 , finely chopped
G. Chillies, Slit into 2 – 3 no’s
Garlic – 3 pods peeled (optional)
Salt – 2 tsp
Oil – 1 tsp
Water – 1 ½ Cups
Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
Hing – ¼ tsp
Seasoning: Oil-1 tsp, mustard – 1 tsp, split urud dhal – 1 tsp, red chillies (broken) – 1 or 2



Method:

1. In a pressure cooker, mix together Keerai, toor dhal, onion, tomato, g. chillies, garlic, salt, hing and turmeric powder and add water and cook for 2-3 whistles.


2. When the pressure completely drops, open and mash the mixture well, so that the dhal gets nicely mashed up and mixes with the spinach.
 

3. Season as given and pour the seasoning ingredients onto the spinach-dhal mixture above.


No need to cook this again in the stove.

Note: 
Once the spinach is removed from the pressure cooker, no need to cook it again.
