Jeera Rice


Cumin Seeds (Jeera) is one of the popular spices used in many of our traditional dishes. This spice adds up a nice flavor to our dish. Also, cumin seeds have much beneficial value and including it regularly in our diet is good for our health.

Health Benefits of Cumin Seeds:

1. The seeds are excellent source of dietary fiber
2. It augments the motility of the gastro-intestinal tract and aids in digestion and tackles digestive disorders
3. It is an excellent source of minerals like iron, copper, calcium etc. Due to its iron richness, it is good for lactating mothers
4. It contains many B-complex vitamins like thiamin, Vitamin B-6, riboflavin, Vitamin A, E and C
5. It is used in the common treatment of cold
6. Effeciently used in Boils treatment. Regular application of crushed cumin seeds in the affected area, alleviates the boils

Cumin Seed Rice (Jeera rice) is a simple to make rice made mainly with Jeera. It is a very palatable dish and goes well with any gravy or raita.

Ingredients:

1. Basmati Rice – 2 Cups , Washed and strained
2. Water – 3.5 Cups
3. Cumin Seeds (Jeera) – 2 tsp
4. Ghee – 4 to 6 tsp
5. Coriander leaves - handful
6. Salt – 2-3 tsp
7. Seasoning : Cloves – 2, Cinnamon – 1”, Cardamom - 2

Method:

1. In a Pressure cooker, add 4 tsp of ghee and add the seasoning ingredients. Once they splutter, add the cumin seeds & crushed green chillies and fry till cumin seeds become light brown and aromatic.



2. Add the basmati rice and fry for a min or two.



3. Add required salt and Water and mix well. Wait will the mixture begins boiling.



4. When boiling starts, sprinkle the coriander leaves and close the cooker, immediate put the weight and completely simmer the flame and cook for 12-15 mins max and immediately switch.



5. Wait for the cooker pressure to completely drop and then remove. Add 2 more teaspoon of ghee and mix everything well and serve.
